Clients inspire me every day. After 30 years, I still love facing new challenges and creating solutions for people. I love what I do! – David

David uses light to highlight the details of machined steel for the aerospace industry or to provide shape and illustrate grain in the wooden leg of a finely constructed chair. He engages his subjects to bring out that enthusiastic, caring expression or the twinkle in their eye as they lean slightly into the camera.

A successful image is not created in a burst of light at 1/60th of a second. It is manufactured over time through conversation, with attention to details and a depth of photography experience.

David earned his Bachelor of Applied Arts in Photographic Arts from Ryerson University and his Master of Education from Nipissing University. He is a participating member of Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) with a Master of Photographic Arts (MPA) designation awarded by winning entries in national competitions, earning accreditation in Annual Report, Commercial, Editorial, Portrait and Environmental Wedding Photography and by volunteering with PPOC.

I was photographing a product the other day after a conversation with my client. It was to be photographed on white background fading to medium gray. The product was to be on a slight angle showing some of the top as well. All uncovered through a conversation.

A great deal has already been decided from angles, lighting choices even depth of focus through our conversation. Often people will simply hand over their ‘baby’ saying they trust me to make the best decisions to illustrate their product. Either way I embrace the challenge to get the best image to suit your needs and goals.

A few things to consider. What background colour suits your business? Are there any features we need to emphasize through lighting and angles? Do we need to add an element to illustrate the scale? I learned early on how important these conversations are. You know and understand your product but don’t fully get the magic that can transpire with carefully considered studio lighting, framing, camera position. Sometimes I’ll see something while lighting and take a test image to share with you whether you’re on set or 100 km away. Details are paramount to successful photography that sells your product(s)!
